The Ashton Falcons

Ashton Hockey Club has a proud tradition of developing players from an early age.  The Club relies heavily on the contribution of past and present players in the coaching structures. Building on a strong base over the previous twenty years, in 2005 the Club identified the need to set out a development plan that would have a player focus and so started a significant development in youth structure which has been developed today into an outstanding example of youth sport enjoyment.

Starting at age 7 players are coached by qualified coaches and youth leaders in a stuctured enviornment. Parents are invited to remain to observed the practice sessions and discuss any suggestions or concerns with the coaches or development officers.

In recent years we have invested heavily in structuring our underage section and making sure we have progression plans capable of developing players to play in league sides. We have ensured our coaching staff are aware of the needs for identification of player talent and we have progressed many players through to provincial representation in both boys and girls hockey.

The Ashton Falcons are the name given to the underage players in the club.  The players are our future club, provincial and international players.  Ashton Hockey Club provides qualified coaches to allow the development of these young players for the future.  Registration is done on an annual basis and existing players and children of club adult members are offered places first and thereafter additional family members of existing players are offered.  Once this is complete new members are taken on a first come first served basis within each age group until the groups are fully subscribed.

The Ashton Falcons branding was done in the 2005 - 2006 Season when specific gear for this age group was developed and sold to members on a non profit basis to aid club devlopment and identification.  From 2008 due to the high demand for gear we have arranged a local shop to distribute the gear.  Details are posted here.

Each year the Falcons participate in more than four hockey blitz's for boys and girls at various locatons throughout Munster.  Parental support has been fantastic for each event and we hope this continues.  If parents are in a position to help on any given Blitz day please let the organising coach know.

Several Falcon players have gone on to represent Munster and Ireland either as players or coaches and most remain as part of the current playing panel in the club.
